Playing Hall

The games will take place in the Olympian Bay Conference Hotel**** on the Olympus Riviera, 90 km south of Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. Excellent location on the beach between the Aegean Sea, Litohoro and the legendary Olympus Mountain!

 

 

Schedule of the Games

1st round: Saturday, 22 July at 4:30 pm

2nd - 8th round: Sunday, 23 July - Saturday 29 July, daily at 5:00 pm.

9th (final) round: Sunday, 30 July at 10:30 am.

Closing ceremony: Sunday, 30 July at 5:00 pm.

Regulations

FIDE rated swiss system in 9 rounds. Open to all chess players. Time limit: 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game + 30 seconds increment for every move starting from move 1.

Tie break criteria: 1) games between the tied players (only if all tied played each other), b) sum of progressive score, c) Buchholz, d) number of games with black.

 

Prizes (in EUR)

1st place: 1000, 2nd: 600, 3rd: 400, 4th-5th: 200 each, 6th-10th: 100 each.

1st woman: 300, 2nd woman: 200, 3rd woman: 100. In case of a tie, prizes are divided equally. A woman player qualifying for two prizes receives both of them. Cup and medals will also be awarded to the 3 top winners.

 

Currencies

1 Euro (EUR) approx. = 1,29 USD or 0,69 GBP or 34,40 RUB (as of 6/6/2006).

 

Entry Fee

50 EUR (no accomodation included).

 

Transportation

The nearest airport to Pieria is Thessaloniki (90 km) which is connected daily with many European airports. The IATA code of Thessaloniki airport is SKG. The major Greek airlines are Olympic Airways and Aegean Airways while other airlines - like low-cost GermanWings or Polish CentralWings - also serve Thessaloniki (you can always check other flights with your travel agent). A taxi ride from Thessaloniki to Pieria shall cost about 55 EUR.
