The World Chess Championship 2005 takes place in the Potrero de los Funes International Conference Hotel of San Luis, Argentina. 

The 8 top chess players who qualified to participate are: 

1. GM Rustam KASIMJANOV (UZB 2670 & World Champion)
2. GM Viswanathan ANAND (IND 2788 & former World Champion)
3. GM Veselin TOPALOV (BUL 2788)
4. GM Peter LEKO (HUN 2763)
5. GM Peter SVIDLER (RUS 2738)
6. GM Judit POLGAR (HUN 2735)
7. GM Michael ADAMS (ENG 2719)
8. GM Alexander MOROZEVICH (RUS 2707)

The total prize fund is 1,000,000 USD. The winner is declared new World Champion and the players ranked 2-4 are seeded directly to the quarter-finals of the World Championship 2007.
